Wood turner
Trees play a major role in the ecological functioning of the earth, they are a considerable resource of materials (mainly wood), foodstuffs (fruits) and they occupy an important practical and symbolic place in almost all cultures of the world.
My attraction to woodworking began with building houses and making furniture. Always looking for new ideas to highlight this noble material, I became interested in different techniques, including woodturning. I am fully dedicated to this and this passion has continued for over 15 years now.
Woodturning allows me to promote the expression of the natural beauty of wood, to transform this material and thus highlight its essence, its purity and also its imperfections dictated by Mother Nature in order to make various artistic objects.
Each object created is unique in terms of the type of wood used, the grain of the wood, its color and its shape.
I really appreciate working with different essences from Quebec and I also use exotic essences from all over the world.
I choose the type of woodturning that will highlight the piece of wood or object I want to create. Woodturning mainly comes in three types, classic turning, segmented turning and green wood turning.
Classic turning is characterized by the manufacture of objects from a single piece of dry wood of a single species.
Segmented turning is defined as the manufacture of objects resulting from the assembly of several pieces of wood of various species glued together to create a unique object that combines beauty and creativity.
Glued wooden objects, although more difficult to achieve, are interesting because it allows to combine local woods with darker and more colored exotic woods such as ebony (black), bubinga (orange), wood of violet (violet) and many more.
Turning green wood is a technique where the piece of freshly cut wood is shaped to exploit the natural look of the wood (bark, holes and cracks). This type of turning gives me the opportunity to turn pieces of wood from injured trees that had to be cut because they posed a safety risk. Green woodturning is by far the best way for turning decorative and food bowls. I make a point of making each bowl unique. Cracks or imperfections can be intact or filled with epoxy and a combination of dyes and gold or copper dust. This brings a special touch that adds cachet to the object shot.
