France Pillière

Artist biography

I was born in Montreal in 1959.  In 79, after graduating at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal in Esthétique de présentation ( stage set design and showcase design ), I start my interior designer career which I will keep for 20 years.  During those years I travel around the world and begin  fine art studies at Université du Québec in Montréal ( UQUÀM ).

After giving birth to my son in 99, I abandon my interior design career as well as my art studies to experiment with different sculptural material.  Paper became my medium of choice.  In 2009 my spouse’s career bring’s me to New Brunswick where I become part of the dynamic Gallery 78 of Fredericton.  Back in Montreal in 2016, I pursue my art career keeping ties with Gallery 78.

Artistic approach:

The plant and animal world is a passion for me.  The sighting of an animal or old tree is a reward to me.  I am fascinated and delighted by their great beauty.  I am overwhelmed by their adaptive strategies toward the humans overpopulation.

They never disappoint me.

Each of my sculpture carries that message through an hommage, an anecdote or a reflexion about a specie and its relationship with homo sapiens.

It is important for me that the sale of my work contributes to an environmental cause or group.  Presently, 3% is remitted to NCC ( Nature conservancy of Canada ) that acquires and transforms hectars of Canadian land into protected natural habitats.

Material

Every sculpture is composed of recycled paper, ‘papier maché’, glue, metal wire of varied gauge, acrylic paint, dry pastel, charcoal and an acrylic varnish finish.
